Welcome to the History’s Mirror website.

The History’s Mirror project has been developed by a team of volunteers who have worked hard to research, photograph and developed this website for you to enjoy.  We would like to thank the many volunteers who have worked hard to make this possible.

This project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery to develop a visual history of clothes and accessories from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, capturing images of outfits that many of us recall as we grew up.  During the development of this project, the team has visited community and faith centres, care homes and schools sharing memory boxes and reminiscing about clothes and their impact on society.

If you, or your organisation, are based in or around the City of Peterborough, please contact us on [email protected] and we could arrange an opportunity for you to enjoy a Reminiscing Session.  There are a number of themed boxes we could share with you:

  • Weddings
  • Needlecraft
  • Going out - Evening
  • Going out - Day
  • Gentlemen's fashion
  • Fashion and Fabrics
  • Teenage years
  • Drawing - using the clothes as an inspiration
  • Writing - using the clothes as an inspiration

The project team hope that you will enjoy visiting our site for many years to come and sharing the memories with friends, colleagues and relatives.
