History's Mirror Project: Reminiscence / Memory Boxes

Memory boxes are themed collections of objects used to share experiences or recall a particular period of time. They are a fun and stimulating activity that bring together a group of people from different generations to connect the past with the present.

The memory box themes are:

  • Teenage years
  • Fashion and fabrics
  • Gentleman's fashion
  • Going out day box
  • Going out evening box
  • Wedding
  • Needlecraft
  • Writing (using the clothes as inspiration)
  • Drawing and design (using the clothes and boxes as inspiration)
  • How to use a sewing machine and make a garment of clothing

The memory boxes are available for loan to:

  • Individuals
  • Charities
  • Residential care homes
  • Schools
  • Health workers
  • Community groups

Currently there is no charge


There is an exhibition available to loan. The exhibition consists of pop up banners with each banner having its own theme*. The exhibition is designed to be flexible and will fit into any space large or small. The exhibition is accompanied by the memory boxes of handling objects, that can be used for reminisce or skills sessions.
