History's Mirror is a project which collects and shares local memories, triggered by a collection of clothing dating from the 1940s-1980s.

The collection includes a range of garments for men and women, which range from dresses to cardigans, coats to underwear as well as accessories such as handbags, shoes and stockings. The collection also includes a selection of dress and knitting patterns. Many of the items were bought or made locally, and some of the items have links to London, as Peterborough is a new town that absorbed much of the post war over spill.

The History's Mirror project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is being supported by City College Peterborough. City College Peterborough is exploring fashion, clothing we wear holds particular memories and personal meanings of the experiences we have had while wearing them. Therefore items of clothing become a unique holder of memories.

The heritage is shared by a team of volunteers through memory boxes at reminiscence sessions with local communities, a touring exhibition and a website, which houses the online catalogue of the clothing and allows people to upload and share their own memories from the 1940s-1980s.
